About Peirce Orchard

All about our orchard.

Situated beside the mighty Clutha River, a short 4 km south of the Millers Flat blue bridge, the Peirce Orchard sits proudly under its famous pumpkin sign.  Owned and operated by local identity, Darryl Peirce, the orchard and stall is well-known in the Teviot Valley and beyond.  The orchard has been in the Peirce family having been established by Darryl’s parents, Rod and Judith, in the 1965 when a young couple with four small children.

The orchard is named after its amazing pumpkins which are the cornerstone of his business.  Darryl, known fondly as The Pumpkin King, grows 100 tonnes of pumpkins annually on land he owns or leases throughout the Valley.  He trialled garlic five years ago which has also become highly desired, adding to his fruit varieties.  Throughout the growing season, the Peirce Orchard sells a wide variety of cherries, peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, apples, pears, corn, pumpkins, onions, tomatoes with all produce only of the best quality.

Darryl is assisted and supported by his family and his small loyal friendly staff.  He uses casual staff at busy times e.g. harvesting and pruning, but Darryl focuses on personal service and attention to quality.

In the height of the fruit season, Darryl makes fortnightly trips to Dunedin and Invercargill taking his fruit and produce to staff in schools, councils, university, and large and small businesses.  His trips are well supported and further spread his fame throughout Otago and Southland!  [Please note, these trips are temporarily suspended due to New Zealand’s Covid-19 Alert-4 status.]
